Medium Day is a virtual gathering of writers, editors, readers, and staff members featuring 200+ sessions, workshops, and presentations. I’m honored to be one of the people asked to do a session.

After my ten-minute talk, I’ll host a Q&A with everyone in attendance.

What will I be talking about?

Many creative people find it difficult to write pure, honest work from their own experience because they’re afraid to be vulnerable and show their raw sides. I believe the best creative work comes from real life and the best stories come from true experiences.

It’s your job as a creative to tap into your courage and shine a light on those stories for your audiences and readers. In my talk, I’ll address how to successfully take risks and be authentic to create your best work.

Here are the main three areas I’ll be talking about:

  1. Courage: How do you take risks, be courageous, and be unafraid to show your raw self? If you have a story to tell that you’re afraid of telling, it may be the best story, book, novella, poem, song, or script you have.
  2. Vulnerability: How can you be raw, transparent, authentic, and honest with your work? I’ll talk about how to be direct and tell your readers and audience who you are without hiding behind a veneer.
  3. Writing well using courage and vulnerability: The best writing and creative work rises to the top. No matter what story you have to tell, how do you take risks and write authentically with your voice, in the settings and worlds you create, using the characters you’ve developed? I’ll talk about combining good writing with courage and vulnerability.

By the end of my talk and our discussion, my goal is to get you to dive into your own lives and find the best experiences you’ve had so you can create incredible, visionary work.

No one has lived your life other than you, so I intend to help you find a unique way to shine a light on your stories for your audience and readers.
